Looking for "carrier" for Reflow

Looking for "carrier" for Reflow | 2 October, 2023

We have these thin and flexible sheets of fiberglass that we sometimes use to send boards through reflow that can't ride the edge hold fingers. We've had these sheets for a decade at least and have no idea what they are or where they were purchased. I bought a couple sheets of different types from McMaster to try. Some fell apart after just a few cycles. Others released a horrible odor that was noticed across the plant. Does anyone use something to place board on in the reflow oven? I'm not looking for fixtures. Just flat, light weight (low thermal mass

) that will withstand multiple trips through the oven. The attached photo has a logo that looks like a dragon or a flame or something.

Hi,

I use this Material, you can get a few different types to work with certain sensors but I've used them for a solid 12 months now for reflowing. I'm using multiple board materials down to 0.4mm & I've had zero issues.

We do use that material for fixtures. The stuff I am talking about is much thinner and flexible.

Also, I added a photo to the first post.

What Is FR4 Substrate Material? FR4, also written as FR-4, is both a name and a standard rating. The name is applied to the fiberglass-reinforced epoxy-laminated sheets used in printed circuit board manufacturing. However, the name also functions as a grade used to rate epoxy laminate sheets.

Can you order a blank thin pcb to use as a carrier?

I believe usually board shops will have scrap pieces laying around and will send you some if you ask. I've also seen them use scrap material to sandwich production boards for shipment to protect them. And we usually get scrap boards for testing and have used some to carry small boards through the oven.

I ordered some 3mm sheets of Durostone to try.

These came in, and they obviously work fine through the oven. They do however soak up a lot of heat, so they are not ideal.

We order bespoke carriers for some of our products, made of Durastone, however, a 1.8-2.0 mm thick FR4 sheet will do the job you require too - as previously suggested.
