NEW MPM ,NEW PROBLEM. | 29 August, 2023

Our company has purchased five new MPM printers (2 BTB ,3 HiE)

and a common issue for all the machines is the offset changes.

Whenever we start working with an existing program, we always need to adjust the offsets.

How can we avoid this?

Based on my observations, our issues are related to the high variability among PCB manufacturers and the differences in the quality of their production from batch to batch. I believe this matter can be closed.

Hi Dima,

I use Speedprint printers mainly, and sometimes for some boards I encounter the same problem.

Do you use pads or fiducials for alignment?

If your using Fids & not a board feature I would push it back to the board fab house & get them to cover costs.

Give the board fab house a drawing of the board with acceptable tolerances etc.

Never had had to use an offset with this method.

I see that you basically closed the issue, but I'll just say that if you are using OFFSETS to get stencil alignment, your set up is wrong. Unless you KNOW that the board house added the fiducial incorrectly or something, you should be able to get good alignment without offsets. If you aren't, then your taught fiducials are not being picked up correctly, or the board dimensions are wrong or something. I would see this constantly on customer supplied boards without proper fiducials and when the SMT operator chose bad pads to use as fiducials.

Don't use a pad with a trace coming off of it. The slight "tail" that the trace adds will change the dimension of the pad, and therefore change the center.

If your boards match your stencil, and you need an offset for alignment, you have a calibration problem.
