Anyone had any history of using these as a SMD ? We have just started to get PCBA's with these on and are having mixed results with alignment and the soldering of them.

I have done some of these. Pin in paste process with generous amount of paste to fill the barrel properly. Pick and place process is tricky too, but if you get them on tape and reel, you can have a custom nozzle and have them placed.

Of the few contract jobs that we ever took one of them was with smt pogo pins. Alignment was poor and most were crooked. Probably could have been resolved with less paste and tuning the process but customer was frustrated that their design ended up with a bunch of crooked pins after reflow. Definitely warn the customer of this possibility and have them know that it can take tuning of the process to get acceptable results.
