Solder paste jetting vs time pressure dispensing | 18 June, 2023

Seeing this graphic has me rethinking solder paste jetting as alternative to stencil printing. It seems it's only 2-3x faster 80k points per hour vs 28k. Wouldn't it be better to get 10 time pressure dispensers vs 1 solder jet?

What I would ask before actually answering your question is, what is the smallest footprint/pad which can be pressure dispensed/jet printed? Regards, Tom.

Jet printing can reach 80um, whereas contact dispensing is 0.3mm I believe. 0402 pads are 0.6x0.5mm.

The my700 can dispense 1 million dots per hour. It's not an exaggeration either. It literally never stops moving, and is dispensing without contacting the board. It uses the same type of mathematical calculations that a plane dropping a bomb uses in order to make sure each deposit of paste hits its target. The accuracy and speed are astounding. You can control shape and volume down to literally a single dot, more on one side of the pad than the oher, skipping a pad, etc. in seconds with easy programming.

That said, I see you are looking at a spider or tarantula from Essemtec (or outfitting a Fox or Puma with paste valves). They are slower, but more accurate and flexible. You can do more cavities, depths, heights, fluids, pastes, etc. than you can with the my700. You can also paste for rework on populated boards with ease.

If speed is most important, my700 is undoubtedly the winner. If quality is most important above all else, I would go with Essemtec. They have an extremely impressive dispensing platform.

And I can set deposits down to 34 um on our my500. I do not have the exact numbers in front of me on the my700 or Essemtec, but they will both be better than that.
