I'm looking to replace our old Yamaha SMT line and I have receive some good feedback from SMTnet users. Most of the recommendations are for Yamaha, Juki or Fuji. As most contract manufacturers use Samsung, but is there reason why production engineers do not recommend Samsung?

As a user of Samsung (Hanwha) machines for close to 10 years now, we have yet to have any major issues at all. We've also personally not come across any component we weren't able to fairly easily place/recognize.

I definitely agree that some other MFGs have some much better CPHs and little abilities, but the maintenance is quite little with Hanwha machines and the software is very user friendly; extremely quick to get the hang of and intuitive and I have valued that more so, being in a higher mix/frequent change environment.

I also have heard from others that the feeders are quite a bit better compared to other MFGs... I've been very satisfied with ease of reel changes. I can usually disconnected a feeder, change a reel and reconnect/continue production within about 15-20 seconds.

Side note: You can change your feeders on the fly - machine never requires stopping if a reel runs out, it will just append those placements to very end so you can continue production, change reel, and finish with minimum down time. You can also add secondary feeders for frequent parts, so machine will pick from 2nd (alternative feeder) when first depletes, again saving down time.

Their service team is a bit small, but they're very knowledgeable and have a good understanding so we've yet to find ourselves requiring any major calls.

I dealt with Hanwha/Samsung machines for about a year and wasn't a huge fan.

Software was always a bit half-baked in my opinion, and the support was as well. The hardware always felt very cheap to me as well.

Don't get me wrong, they'll pick and place, but I'd choose Juki, Fuji, or ASM long before Hanwha.

Hi Rob, my previous offer to you assumed you would stick with Yamaha, if others suit you then we could also supply. If Why no one recommends Samsung/Hanwha you ask, from the seller's point of view, Samsung's market is majorly in China, with about 2~3K annually produced & sold. CPHs & gadgets are more or less the same if your product it's not that complicated, but if you considered the mounter it's an investment and think about one day you could easier get rid of it and have money back, then JUKI could be your best choice. FUJI is typically for smartphones type of products, as NXT's great performance, I checked your websites & your product it's not needed, not to mention the budget would be raised, and between JUKI/FUJI/ASM, Fuji & ASM needs higher level clean room, and weekly/monthly maintenance, for some reason, FUJIs are very easily jamming nozzles and could always use some cleaning & oil the shafts.

This is where I think Hanwha/Samsung sorta sits apart from the others, as the maintenance and upkeep is almost zero. One of our SM482s has been going 10 years now, with essentially the only maintenance other than cleaning and filter changes, being greasing quarterly which takes about 15 minutes. They're also pretty resilient to dust and overall not the most optimal environments.
