Quad IIC - Can you use a Quad Align Board from S Series? | 31 May, 2011

I bought an “as is’ Quad IIC package a while back. The machine definitely has issues with the Quadalign Board. The ICs were literally falling off of the board. I am guessing when it was manufactured they did not get the PC board quite hot enough or something to have a good reflow. The pads on the ICs only partially bonded and the board is full of intermittent issues because of this. It obviously worked at one time though but I am not sure how. If you put a little pressure on the components on the board they will literally fall off.

I found a Quadalign Board from an S series machine I can get from an individual for $200.00 The boards look to be nearly identical from the pictures. My question is if anyone knows if I can use the S Series board in my IIC by changing out the firmware chip or any mod?

Thank you very much for your reply.

I have never heard of a Quad "S" series machine. Can you post the entire model #.

I have a QSP-2 which I assume is in the same family as the QSA-30. I compared the diagram that is in the service manual with a board from a 2-C and they appear to be the same. Your best bet would be to contact PPM at http://www.goppm.com. They should be able to give you a positive answer.

Those cards are all different. The c-series stands alone by itself while a qsp2 and qsa-30 mount into a slot. They were all manufactured seperately for each machine. I would purchase a new refurbished one for the 2c machine and forget about the other.

Good luck
