thermocouple for profiling | 18 April, 2008

I am looking for some sources for a reuseable thermocouple probe. We do small prototype runs and many times cannot afford to be scrapping boards for profiling. I am looking for a probe that will clamp to a pcb or pcb carrier and allow me to manipulate the tip of the thermocouple into a solder joint. I cannot use glues or high temp solder to attach the probe. I know they exist but cannot find a source. All help is appreciated.

Saunders Technology... or ECD (makers of M.O.L.E.) has what is called a TEMPROBE that will work how you want... even in "wet" solder paste.

Maybe others here can tell you if it works well or not, I use KIC.

Aluminum Tape is the way to go. Here is a thread from our fine SMTNet archives: http://www.smtnet.com//forums/index.cfm?fuseaction=view_thread&CFApp=1&Thread_ID=9891&#Message39736

DO NOT get those clampable temperature probes. Waste of money. They are a pain in the arse, and seldom stay on no matter how much prep. work!

I think Joseph is referring to Kapton tape.

We use aluminum tape secured with a piece of Kapton.
