All,

I understand that there is a requirement to upgrade the narrow view camera on the Fuji CP642 to place 0201 components - is this necessary ?

Also,

1 - What tape package to they come in ? Can you use 0402 feeders?

AJ, You can use 0402 feeders to place the 0201 parts. I would suggest getting the feeders you are going to use calibrated before trying to run the parts. Also, another good idea is to get some 0.4mm tape leaf covers for the feeders. They will help with the pick-up of the part. Fuji does offer 2 different feeders and I would suggest getting them if you have the money to make the purchase.

Well I've heard you must get the 0201, 0.4mm tape feeder to place an 0201 component as the 0402 feeder won't do it. They ain't cheap @ $1,000 each from Fuji roughly. Also you will need to get 0.4mm nozzles on your machine.

Have you actually done this as you suggest Logan?

Yes, we have. We do have one machine that can place the 0201 parts. I have bought some 0.4mm tape leaf covers and replaced the 0.7mm covers on some CP6 0802 feeders. I calibrate the feeders as tight as I can and make sure the feeders that we use are the cleanest things in the factory. There cannot be too much play in the feeder at all. On a W8P2 cp6 feeder the tolerances for calibration are X0.10mm and the Y0.05mm so you can imagine placing a part that is half the size needs to be almost completely dead center. I found out that the camera upgrade is needed because the old camera can barely see the part, if at all. If you have the pixel jig to calibrate the new camera, it should take a competent technician a normal shift to change and calibrate the new camera.

Again, I do need to stress that if you have the budget to get the feeders from fuji to run the 0201 parts, buy them. If you do not any of the feeders that run the 0402 package work, but I would suggest buying the 0.4mm tape leaf covers to get the accuracy a little better.

Logan-

That's good to know as I've wondered what makes the 0201 feeder from Fuji so different $$$ from an 0402 feeder? In that they are both 8 x 2mm feeders is it simply a different tape leaf that is the difference? And is the high price compared to the regular 8 x 2mm feeder simply Fuji jacking up the price?

0201 Feeders are a different height than regular 8X2's I have put them on a surface plate and measured them with a height gauge.

FYI: They make 0201C (Capacitor) and 0201R (Resistor)Again the difference between the two is height.

Also it is CRITICAL that your machine's pick height is adjusted to the proper height. It should be set to .5mm which is contrary to the manuals. The manuals say .65.

How did I know senior was going to get in here too. Nice to see you again.

I figured as much with the height difference, but I do not have the equipment here to test my thoughts. We somehow have our machine dialed in to run the 0201 parts with W8P2 feeders with 0.7 and 0.4mm tape leaf covers. I don't know what our success rate is with placing parts, but I know that I calibrate the feeders before they go into the machine and I do not hear much about part loss. I would think that if you were very concerned with the price of the parts, you would be purchasing the correct feeders, but if you want to try, go for the 0802 and see what happens.

Hi It is best to fit the VGA camera for 0201 parts make sure your software is high enough..above v1.33 although you can place without but no so good. 0.4mm tapered nozzles are best. 0201 feeder the locator base in increased by aprox 0.3mm and the index lever is reduced by the same amount, if you want to use standard 8x2 feeder try putting a 0.25mm shim under the base locater, this will give you better performance. As you will be unable to change the lever height be sure there is clearance between the top of the feeder and index roller. we have original 0201 feeders and Nozzles if you require. good luck.

Senior, below, is correct. THe narrow view camera has to be upgraded in order to place 0201 components. Also to pick the parts you need the 0201 feeders. These feeders present the part 0.3 mm higher than the standard 0402 feeder. The part pickup height will need to set at 0.5 mm. the later vintage machine came from the factory already set. The camera upgrade assembly #039244 is about 7k plus labor. For more info on this upgrade contact me: GregF@smtresource.com
