Are there profilers that I can use over my leaded and lead-free wave that can also profile my reflow ovens (leaded and lead-free).

I'm not that familiar with either but as I learn I can't help but think that there should be something on the market that is all purpose.

Thanks in advance for your help

Yup! All the major players out there - KIC, Datapaq, and ECD - are all capable of profiling both reflow and wave solder. check them out.

We have used both Datapaq and ECD Mole in the past. Either system will do the job for you, slight preference would be for the ECD system.

So just to clarify.... If i bought a KIC 2000 I could run that one unit over both my waves and through both my ovens (leaded and lead-free)?

Or would I need additional equipment to use it on the wave?

ECD sells the MOLE, and they sell both the Oven Rider and the Wave Rider to accompany it.

The thing is, you can profile both an oven and a wave machine without either if you're willing to just solder your thermocouples to a board. The nice thing about the added modules (from the perspective of someone that's never used either) is that they don't wear out like a PCB and you don't have to keep soldering and removing thermocouples. So, the answers to your questions are yes, and depends.

That's assuming that the KIC can withstand lead-free temps. I hope that's a safe assumption, because they'd be out of business if it couldn't.

Just as an afterthought, I didn't mean to imply that KIC and/or Datapaq don't provide dedicated profiling tools that accompany their datalogger. I just don't know whether they do or not, but I do know that ECD does.

Check out http://www.solderstar.co.uk/wavePro.html

This tool measures all key wave solder information with a single pass. Wave/PCB contact, immersion depths, etc. Also has a reflow pack to allow use on reflow, 9 channels with predictive software.

Steve, KIC does. The new KIC2000 has built in dwell time sensors. You can buy KIC's wavesurfer option (like MOLE's waverider), or you can engineer a custom pallet for 1/3 the price. I made a custom pallet and took advantage of the KIC's automatic dwell time sensors.

See attachment for a few of the details.
