Hello, I have an oven with a big fail. The Control Unit. It is a 5 zones oven (BTU VIP70)and has more than 10 years, and I think that now is not interesting to repair. I think to buy an offer, an oven Heller of 7 zones + cool,(better for lead free). The price of reparation is more or less, the middle of the new Heller (the new Heller is about 40.000euros). We work with Pb (military industry) but we'll change to lead free in 2-3 years. Do you think that is better to repair, or to buy the new one?. Thanks.

Really . . . 40,000 Euro for a new Heller 7 zone oven? Sounds too good to be true. Anyway, if thats the case I would not invest 20K to reapir a 10 year old oven.

You likely will not get 10 years of service out of the Heller and it is certainly not as well built as the VIP-98.

If those things do not matter to you and it's all about the money then you sound like the perfect Heller customer.

I''m sure I remember BTU telling me that the VIP series got the same contollers as the ancient TRS14's.

Someone may want to verify this - but if correct you can pick up a TRS for beer money & rob the controller.

A new 7 zone BTU Pyramax can be had for not much more than 40K euros.

Shipping might be an issue for you but I have a VIP70A in storage that is roughly the same vintage but in really good shape for $5000. We pulled it from service last year to bring in a more Pb-Free capable oven. We are still running a sister oven on our second line with no troubles.

BTU - "WTF" We don't like them at all. We have no problem to set the profiles, it is a matter of fact that they are just perfect for that. The boards are just perfectly soldered.

But - the their support sucks Big time! Or the lack of support! We are on the verge of get rid of them all, in the whole company. Just as an example: Our brand new BTU has gone down several times and what is the replay? You must have done something strange to it! Hahaha we have several BTU:s at our site but everytime we request for a service contract or more important; a service engineer to do a main preventive maintenance and also to train our techs, we never got as much as a phone call!

Haha, we have about 20 sites around the world (not everyone using BTU) and they just don't get it....

You obviously need to become more self-sufficient if you are struggling to keep your reflow oven up and running.

Reflow ovens are too simple to repair to get freaked out over them.

It's not always the vendor's fault when the customer doesn't have good support people in house.

What you are replying is just what Kris was talking about. I wouldnt take it either. Customer service should be very important for any company. Imagine a broken oven, company coming to a standstill because of it and your supplier saying you've got nothing to get worked up about.

I was expecting such a response. Look...my point is this....the reflow oven is the most simple piece of equipment on the floor. I can't imagine having to call in BTU repeatedly if it is a fairly recent vintage oven. Plus it sounds like Kris might be located in some far out remote region of the world where support might be thin from all vendors.

Guess the bottom line is this.....you better learn to take care of yourselves by either better training or spending more on competent engineers and techs. Your goal should be to NEVER have to call in these vendors for support. They charge way too damn much for one thing.

It really depends on what deliverables BTU can offer and successfully accomplish without the complexity of various reinvention activities. The basis of its� vehicle stability as a total platform should be broken into a framework of goals and objectives through which a delineated atoll data are streamlined via a myriad of initiatives required by the fields of engineering. Focus of internal as well as external results may vary but the constant of guideposts should change, resulting in qualitative data that can be transposed into linear data and successfully graphed per instructed guidelines.
