Experience with Ersa IR/PL 650

Hi guys, I am thinking of buying a used Ersa IR/PL 650. I have read in some threads, that it is quite a good and reliable rerwork station. My usecase is mainly high mass pcbs. In the description of the manufacturer it states, that this station is mainly focused on high mass boards. But I have read quite often, that you can run easily into issues with IR, burning the PCB or damaging the component and not being able to reflow high mass pcbs. Also I cannot find any videos or real documentation on how to use it, I dont understand how the IR top heater is focused. It seems like it is one quite big rectangular heater, which would heat up quite a large space and would mean, that neraby components are unnecessarily stressed and reflowed. I would appreciate if someone has some insights and could help me out.
