HI, I have quite a build up of print stencils which I need to keep but with little room. What do guys think about the remountable foils which take up less space? Are they robust enough? I have heard they are quite dangerous in the wrong hands also. Thoughts?

We had this problem not long ago and changed to the remountable foils. They are as good as the orignals but they cost less and are practical to store. All our stencils come from DEK and they have a nice little (overpriced) cupboard, if you're working for a big company, definitely the way forward. Chrissie

We have been using unmounted stencils for 4 years. Easy to store and less expensive. Our stencil supplier gave us a pair of universal mounts for our printers. Watch the sharp edges. We haven't had any cuts but the potential is always there.

We have used them for 6 years now. No issues. The frames are not universal so you need to pick one vendor. IIT has done a great job for us and the standard turn is 2 days for laser cut for $150.00.

We have also used the IIT Pro Plate II for many years. They sell a small storage cabinet (also overpriced) originally intended for drawing storage where the stencil foils hang in plastic envelopes. Another thing to consider with IIT is their $13 "skin guard" option. This makes the formerly sharp edges virtually cut proof. I may be suspicious or old-fashioned but I continue to use a framed and mounted stencil for 20 mil or less. John Thorup

We also use IIT. I evaluated the skin guard treatment a few months back. It definately cleaned up the edge but not enough to make much difference if you mis-handle a bare stencil.

DEK have this new system called VectorGuard, which are remountable foils with protective edges - worth a look and may save the odd finger!

Thanks guys, I have been looking into the 'vectorguard' system. It actually looks pretty good,though I have only seen it on their sites. Has anyone tested it? Apparantly DEK and Tannlin make it.
