We've been using it for a long time to inspect and measure paste height and it works very well.Training the operators is very easy and it is not a time consuming method. We also have an in line automated paste inspection cyberoptics unit and in some instances it became the "gate" piece of equipment on the line. The programming part is time consuming too and not as user friendly for the operators. It does the math and plugs the numbers in the SPC charts but for the money the LSM unit will work just fine as I said w minimal investment and training. Both Cyberoptics inline (Cyber Sentry) and stand alone (LSM, LSM2 & LSM300) work well. As previously mentioned, the Sentry series inline systems work well, but reqiuire programming. The LSM series stand alone systems are good, but can be operator dependent leaving the operators in complete control of the process unless closely supervised.

ASC makes a good stand alone system also. The Laservision SP3D is very similar to the Cyberoptics LSM series and can chart results directly into an SPC program taking operator interpretation out of the equation. In other words, "It is what it is".

Hope this helped.

I like the LSM - nice and simple and works well. The SPIDA pc based inspection works well too but may be a bit pricier?
