Electronic digital methods of determining unsoldered leads/pins
Unsoldered lead or pins in a PCB or any other electronic components leads to open circuits or
faulty electrical connections thus the device does not operate. Typical inspection methods like
the use of microscopes have previously been used to detect unsoldered pins or leads in a device.
However, with technological advancement, some new electronic digital methods and
components have been invented as discussed below.
Electrical test- this involves the use of a test device for Printed Circuit Boards. The PCB
is put into the device and then gold needles are inserted from the bottom of the board to
touch point on the board such that the electrical connections on that point are determined.
Using automated optical inspection- this is a machine that checks the electrical
connection of any part (whether the part is soldered or not) of a PCB using software
algorithms and a camera.
Soldering should, therefore, be done carefully and by a professional to ensure that all the leads
and pins are well connected (soldered) so that the component functions efficiently.
