Any comment on the solder pot temperature setting, 500F (260C) or 482F (250C). Most of the manufacturer is using 500F in CA.

Dason, IPC/EIA J-STD-001C states: "....temperature within the range of 230C (446F) to 290C (554C)." That's a pretty wide process range. 250C has been typical in the past. We run ours from 230C to 240C. We have found that some single-sided PCBs can de-laminate at 250C. You know, the cheap boards and they warp badly at 250C. We get excellent results in the 235-240C range. It's also a good idea to confirm that your wave solder machine's "display" temp is giving a true reading. We check ours with a calibrated temp. measurement device and have found the machine to be off by like +5C. Generally you should try to run at the lowest temp. in order to get the desired results. Also, the target contact time in the wave should be 2 seconds. Contact band width is a function of conveyor speed. For an example 5cm of contact band width at 150cm/min. conveyor speed will give you 2 seconds of contact time. Of course preheat temp. must be set to deliver the proper top-side board temp. in accordance with the flux specification. Hope this helps. PeteC

PeteC, thank you very much for your great information, I did implement some of our facilities to use 250C but still some of the other facilities are still set at 260C. I am not only consider the warpage but also the power consumption, dross, PM, pot contamination.....

Now, I can try to set lower temperature, ie 245C

We process a fairly wide variety of board designs. So, pot temperature is one of the controllable factors in DOE.
