Bill Carlton, Director of Test Engineering and EHS Coordinator, said, “By making supportable assumptions, analyzing data over the past six months and projecting forward six months, we have easily achieved the objective of the project. Data will continue to be collected and analyzed through 2011 and beyond, and posted in each of our work areas for employees to monitor. The success of this project is due to the combined effort of all Victron employees, but especially to our facility maintenance staff and our warehouse personnel who diligently work to segregate the various recyclable materials.”
The project was implemented in June 2010 and was fully underway by the beginning of July 2010. All employees put forth a great deal of diligence and commitment to separate recyclable materials out of the waste stream and send those materials to companies that take recycled material and convert it into usable products. The company found that the majority of the volume of the recyclable material was plastic.
“As with residential recycling efforts, the key to recycling success is separation of those materials. In simpler terms, in 2009 we generated more than 91,000 pounds of waste that went directly into the local landfill. This year, we are easily on track to reduce this to less than 7,000 pounds of material. And we are looking to improve this further with additional efforts ahead of us. We are very proud to have achieved these results and it proves that companies can make a huge difference in the lives and well being of the local community and environment,” added Carlton.
