Victron Achieves Major Milestone in Recycling Program

Dec 23, 2010

FREMONT, CA - Victron, Inc., a premier electronics manufacturing services (EMS) supplier of end-to-end manufacturing solutions to Fortune 500 companies, announces that the recycling effort that it implemented to support one of its ISO14001 Environmental Impact Reduction projects is a success. Victron met its goal to reduce the amount of waste generated by the company that goes to the landfill by 70 percent.

Bill Carlton, Director of Test Engineering and EHS Coordinator, said, “By making supportable assumptions, analyzing data over the past six months and projecting forward six months, we have easily achieved the objective of the project. Data will continue to be collected and analyzed through 2011 and beyond, and posted in each of our work areas for employees to monitor. The success of this project is due to the combined effort of all Victron employees, but especially to our facility maintenance staff and our warehouse personnel who diligently work to segregate the various recyclable materials.”

The project was implemented in June 2010 and was fully underway by the beginning of July 2010. All employees put forth a great deal of diligence and commitment to separate recyclable materials out of the waste stream and send those materials to companies that take recycled material and convert it into usable products. The company found that the majority of the volume of the recyclable material was plastic.

“As with residential recycling efforts, the key to recycling success is separation of those materials. In simpler terms, in 2009 we generated more than 91,000 pounds of waste that went directly into the local landfill. This year, we are easily on track to reduce this to less than 7,000 pounds of material. And we are looking to improve this further with additional efforts ahead of us. We are very proud to have achieved these results and it proves that companies can make a huge difference in the lives and well being of the local community and environment,” added Carlton.

Through the strict adherence to the internationally recognized standards ISO9001:2000, ISO13485 and ISO14001, Victron maintains detailed and documented quality assurance programs that emphasize continuous improvement and accountability across all areas of the company.
