SN100C (040), halogen-free lead-free flux-cored solder wire

OSAKA, JAPAN - Nihon Superior Co. Ltd. announces that it has been awarded a 2010 EMAsia Innovation Award in the category of Environmentally Friendly Products/Materials for its completely halogen-free lead-free flux-cored solder wire SN100C (040). The award was presented to the company during an April 21, 2010 ceremony that took place at the Shanghai Everbright Convention & Exhibition Center during NEPCON China 2010.

Using SN100C (040), no tin whiskers were observed in testing after 1,000 hours of exposure to the environmental condition of 85°C/85%,temperature and relative humidity.

SN100C (040) completely halogen-free flux-cored wire, with no intentional addition of halogen, is an effective solution in preventing Sn whiskers due to corrosion of the solder surface. Different formulations of other so-called halogen-free cored-wire fluxes on various board finishes need to be carefully examined for the possible incidence of whiskers.

A highlight of the range of the new SN100C products, which includes solder paste and flux-cored wire, is that they are completely halogen-free and contain no intentional additions of fluorine (F), chlorine (Cl), bromine (Br) or iodine (I) in their formulation, while still delivering excellent wetting on all types of substrates. In addition, the SN100C alloy delivers a silver-free stable microstructure that can accommodate the long term strains and impact conditions to which a solder joint can be subjected.

Established in 2006, the EMAsia Innovation Awards program strives to recognize and celebrate excellence in the Asian electronics industry, inspiring companies to achieve the highest standards and push the industry forward.
