KIC and the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) recently completed a comprehensive study with the end goal of discovering reliable nondestructive methods for profiling sensitive critical components such as BGAs. This study demonstrates the merits of various thermocouple attachment methods and how tried-and-true practices are drawn into question since they are seen to have a negative impact on modern profiling reliability. Based on these new findings, KIC will discuss strategies for profiling complex PCBs that do not require drilling holes and destroying components in the process. Creating offset as well as how to balance the board will be discussed.
Depending on time allowed, other topics can be covered to include simple profiling basics, profiling for energy savings, continuous monitoring with reflow process inspection, SPC and traceability. Both hardware and software will be available for hands-on review at the end of the presentation. After the 30-minute session, KIC will raffle off copies of a newly released book on profiling, full of tips and examples on how to improve a company’s process (a $34.99 value).
Brian O’Leary brings with him more than a decade of industrial sales, marketing and management experience in North and South America, Mexico, and Asia. Prior to joining KIC, Brian worked for Sono-Tek as a manufacturer of spray fluxing equipment where he spent much of his time in Asia working in the overseas operations of Western OEMs and CMs.
Based in San Diego, KIC is the industry leader in automated thermal management tools and systems for reflow, wave, cure and semiconductor thermal processes. The company pioneered the development of oven profilers and process development tools, and then worked to create the next generation of thermal systems to help manufacturers optimize and monitor thermal processes.
In addition to KIC Explorer, products include the KIC 24/7 continuous monitoring system, the KIC Vision automatic profiling system and more. With the introduction of cutting edge tools, the company continues to stay on the leading edge of process optimization and real-time thermal management systems, and has won numerous industry awards.
