Press Release: Ultra Opens New High Technology Engineering Service and Production Hub In Sawston, Cambridge, UK

Established 45 years, Contract Electronic Manufacturer Ultra Electronics Manufacturing & Card Systems has added another string to its already formidable bow!

Opening a brand new high technology engineering services & production hub in Sawston Cambridge, its goal is to provide high competence rapid prototype electronic assembly, small volume build-to-print electronic assembly and a comprehensive array of high calibre production engineering services.

Mirroring the accreditations already held by its larger parent operation in Weymouth, the new Cambridge plant is set to quickly gain AS9100 Aerospace approval to add to the ubiquitous ISO 9001:2008.

The engineering led Cambridge facility offers highly credible manufacturing expertise and complimentary value added engineering services of the kind usually only found in much larger facilities. Providing SMT and through-hole PCB assembly as well as full system assembly the operation features two SMT lines, automatic optical inspection, flying probe and functional test capabilities.

Matching the production and test equipment present in Ultra's Weymouth plant the Cambridge front-end operation provides a smooth migration path to the Weymouth plant for larger volumes and to Ultra's offshore suppliers for high volume production.

Whilst a new operation, the Sawston plant is run by a team of specialists who have worked closely together in electronic assembly within the Cambridge area for many years, bringing a richness of experience and a thorough understanding of the rapid response business.

Buying into Ultra's Blended Model, the Cambridge operation offers credible low cost material and components sourcing. Re-configuring in response to changing exchange rates the Blended Model benefits from Ultra's substantial overseas sales in Euro and USD, overcoming hurdles currently impacting on the competitiveness of OEMs and other CEMS trading in sterling.

Ultra's Cambridge and Weymouth operations can facilitate an extensive array of design services by way of individually successful independent design companies under the Ultra Synergy banner. Comprising of Mechanical design and Industrial design, delivering stylish and robust designs alongside Software design and Electronic design, with specialism in embedded microprocessor, RF I/C, Wireless System, Analogue & Digital as well as Nuclear RC&I design disciplines. The Synergy design teams work closely with Ultra to ensure cost effectively achieved functionality within minimum timescales.
