Reducing changeover time was a good enough reason for the concept of Red-E-Set to be designed. But it was not the only resulting benefit of the now 7-year old universal PCB support system. Production Solutions Inc, of Poway, CA, began in 1998 as a design, engineering and manufacturing company and by 2001 had quite a hit with the reception of their board support system for semi-automatic screen printers.

Today there are Red-E-Set board supports for both in-line and semi-automatic machines, including screen printers, dispensers, chip shooters, and pick and place machines. These are truly universal in nature fitting on any brand or model of machine in the PCB assembly process. They work for both single and double sided boards but their benefits far outweigh the other board support systems with the double sided boards.

Unlike other supports, the Red-E-Set does not require any machine modification, air or power, but rather uses independently spring-loaded non-abrasive ESD safe support pins that can lock into place for adequate support and assembly quality. When the competition is high, up-time of equipment and quality can make a huge difference to profits. Our product helps manufacturers achieve their goal of lean manufacturing. said Doug Farlow of PSI.

The four key benefits of the Red-E-Set Universal Board Support Systems are:

  • Reducing changeover time

  • Improving quality

  • Increasing up-time and therefore, revenue

  • Eliminating the risk of component damage

While Production Solutions has various models and sizes to choose from, customization is also available to accommodate for various heights and length. The sizes range from 6 to 24 in length and they come in both green and red to help the user identify which to use for leaded vs. lead free solder.

The pins lock into place after taking on the shape of the board and its components. They are available with either a manual or motorized locking mechanism.
