Digitaltest Announces New High-Speed Test Heads For MTS 500 Condor Flying Probe Test System

Jun 19, 2003

Concord, CA, June 16, 2003 US Digitaltest Inc., a subsidiary of Digitaltest GmbH of Blankenloch, Germany, has introduced new high-speed heads for its MTS 500 Condor flying prober test systems. The new heads are capable of reaching an acceleration of greater than 20g.

The new four-head design will be incorporated on Digitaltests MTS 500 Condor flying prober. Driven by state of the art servo motors, the new heads can reach acceleration speeds of over 20g. With the new head technology, movements of 6mm can take less than 12 milliseconds.

By reducing the time required to move the heads, test times can be reduced. Since complex printed circuit assemblies often require thousands of probings during testing, the amount of time saved can be significant. Using state of the art technology in moving parts, the test heads are flying on an air cushion that enables high-speed requirement with almost no friction. The incorporation of this technology allows for maintenance-free operation and guarantees reliable long-term operation in the production environment.

The new heads employ Digitaltests Active Head Concept technology. Critical measurements are performed directly in the heads rather than through the long signal path to the Analog Measurement Unit. The Active Head Concept allows accurate and stable measurements of a wide range of capacitors and resistors. In addition, the active heads also support Boundary Scan testing and Opens Check probing.

The MTS 500 Condor is the most recent Flying prober introduced to the market. With a SMEMA-compatible conveyor and the ability to test boards up to 24 in. x 28 in., the system is ideal for a variety of production environments. It is a unique test system that combines an in-circuit test system with functional testing capabilities. Vision test capability is also employed to provide non-electrical testing. The systems multiple test strategies allow for the highest fault coverage of any test system on the market.
