Receptacle Makes Room for Drive Mounting

Feb 26, 2003

Circuit Assembly (CA) has developed an extended-height press-fit compliant pin SCA-2 receptacle to add to its SCA-2 product family.

SCA-2 (single connector attachment) is a hard drive interface developed for SCSI and FC-AL systems.

The extended height SCA-2 receptacle was developed in response to the industry's need for greater spacing between the backplane and direct-mating disk drive.

Incorporating power, options block and data signals into one single mated connector pair, SCA-2 receptacles and plugs eliminate the need for cable assemblies and provide a substantial cost reduction to manufacturers.

With SCA-2, manufacturers are able to use only two connectors as opposed to the previous twelve (three double ended cable assemblies and their mating connectors) for each disk drive attachment.

As is the standard for all of Circuit Assembly's SCA-2 receptacles, these newly developed SCA-2 receptacles are available in both the 80 and the 40 pin counts which support the SCSI-3 protocol and the Fibre Channel industry standard, respectively.

All of CA's SCA-2 receptacles consist of staggered contact heights to enable hot-plugging.

Additionally, alignment guides on both ends of the SCA-2 receptacles permit blindmateability.

Other Circuit Assembly SCA-2 connector configurations include standard-height through-hole pin, extended-height through-hole pin, and standard-height press-fit compliant pin.
