National Instruments and Electronics Workbench Deliver New Circuit Design Educational Tools

AUSTIN, Texas and TORONTO, Feb. 25 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- National Instruments , a global leader in virtual instrumentation software and hardware, and Electronics Workbench, a leader in desktop electronic design automation software, today announced a collaborative effort that enriches the laboratory experience in electronics technology education and electrical engineering education. The companies have developed the Multisim VI Library, a series of integrated sample labs linked by a seamless interface between National Instruments LabVIEW graphical development environment and Electronics Workbench Multisim circuit simulation software. With the Multisim VI Library, educators and students now can more easily design, simulate, measure and test electronic circuits in an integrated software and hardware environment.

National Instruments (NI) LabVIEW is a graphical development environment that helps engineers and scientists quickly build data acquisition, instrumentation and control systems that increase productivity and save development time. Users build a graphical program called a virtual instrument (VI) instead of writing text-based programs. Electronics Workbench's (EWB) Multisim product is the leading educational market circuit simulation software offering unique pedagogical functions, intuitive schematic capture, SPICE/VHDL/Verilog/RF simulation, analysis, and a wide range of related educational resources.

The NI and EWB interface gives educators and students the unique ability to easily exchange data between Multisim and LabVIEW using the Multisim VI Library. They can compare the data from a simulated circuit to real data from a prototype board and analyze the results within one experiment. The Library is based on a core VI that can easily be adapted by instructors to their own experiments. Similar examples that import LabVIEW captured data into Multisim will also soon be available. These new capabilities enable a wider range of learning objectives and lab applications than are possible when using these tools separately.
