Solectron tapped by Sierra Wireless for EMS

Solectron Corp. is increasing its presence in the wireless communications sector with its recent selection as contract manufacturer for Sierra Wireless Inc. products.

The Milpitas, Calif., EMS company will provide Sierra Wireless, Vancouver, British Columbia, with design support, prototype, new product introduction and volume manufacturing services for data and telecommunications products. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

�Establishing a scalable, high quality and cost competitive global supply chain strategy is a key element of our overall strategic plan,� said Andrew Harries, senior vice president of corporate development at Sierra Wireless in a statement.

Sierra Wireless manufactures wireless PC cards for portable computers, wireless adapters for PDAs, OEM modules for embedded applications and rugged vehicle-mounted wireless systems.
