LCU FROM COGISCAN OFFERS REAL-TIME TRACKING OF MOISTURE SENSITIVE DEVICES (MSDs)

Cogiscan, Inc. announces the Local Control Unit (LCU) for display of real-time tracking information and automation of process calculations for MSDs. When combined with Cogiscan�s IC-scan tracking system, this small-footprint workstation (20� x 20�, 508mm x 508mm) reduces time-consuming, error-prone manual tracking procedures, while displaying status and location information of MSDs during the SMT assembly process.

The LCU scans RF tags utilized by the IC-scan tracking and control system. Attached to trays and reels containing electronic components, RF tags may be placed up to six inches from the LCU during tag reading, without any fixed support. These tags contain all relevant component information, including sensitivity level and expiration date/time. Additional material information is retrieved by the LCU from a local database. Using the information provided by the tags and database, the LCU calculates exposure time and generates warnings and alarms whenever operator intervention is required.

Multiple LCUs networked throughout production allow for tracking of material from one end of the factory to the other. The LCU is modular and upgradeable to handle future applications and products, and can be integrated with other factory systems.
