New, versatile universal tooling for MPM AP Series and Ultraprint 2000 printers makes setup simple, repeatable, and fast. Designed to retrofit directly into most existing printers in these models, JNJ's UTP-1100 universal tooling is ideal for double-sided boards, because it features over 1,000 interchangeable support pin locations to effectively accommodate densely-populated circuit assemblies. Unlike magnetic-based tooling, there are alphanumeric characters assigned to the X and Y coordinate positions for the board supports, vacuum chucks, and board snuggers that can be recorded. This hard data can be used to record the actual board setup parameters, and can be reused for future setups. With this information, an operator can change the setup for a new board in 1 - 2 minutes. There is also an offline set up fixture that allows a board setup profile to be configured without interrupting current production runs.
Because the new UTP-1100 uses the same vacuum system and same mounting holes as the original MPM tooling plate, no drilling is required, and the retrofit can be completed on-site in about an hour. Eccentric and concentric board supports provide more potential support for densely-populated boards, and the UTP-1100 features both pneumatic board snuggers and fixed board snuggers with X and Y adjustment. Other features include adjustable vacuum chucks with thumb screw locks; 4 sets of vacuum side plates; position indicator strips along X and Y axis for exact support pin locating; 20 board supports; and more.
