Pickering Series 113 SIL Changeover Reed Relays

Pickering Electronics are Manufacturers of high quality Reed Relays for Instrumentation and Automatic Test Equipment (ATE), High voltage switching, Low thermal EMF, Direct drive from CMOS, RF switching and other specialist applications. Relays are available in Surface Mount, Single-in-Line (SIL), Dual-in-Line (DIL) and many other popular package styles.

Pickering Electronics’ Quality Assurance
Pickering manufactures Reed Relays for instrumentation applications using only the highest quality materials. We are certified to ISO 9001-2008 and audited by the British Standards Institution. Pickering relays are subjected to continuous inspection during the manufacturing process and after a strenuous thermal cycling routine are 100 percent tested for all operating parameters on Automatic Test Equipment (ATE) and other specialized equipment. All ATE test results are archived and used for Statistical Process Control.

Talking about Former-less Coil Winding
All Pickering Reed Relays are constructed using our SoftCenter™ technology, which uses a soft inner material to reduce stresses on the reed switch. In addition, contact life and more reliable contact resistance are achieved by our use of Former-Less Coil Winding. Pickering’s former-less coils are manufactured using a fully automated process that provides consistent output quality and repeatability. What advantages are given by using Former-Less Coil Winding?

Looking at the attached graphic you can see that former-less winding greatly increases the winding ‘window’, providing the following advantages:

1. A much higher magnetic drive level and better magnetic coupling as the smaller diameter of the inner turns are more efficient (more turns per Ohm).

2. The number of Ampere Turns (AT) is increased - Reed switches are usually rated in sensitivity by an Ampere Turn number, for example, an AT rating of 15AT is twice as sensitive as one with a 30AT.

3. Because the 30AT switch needs more magnetic drive there is much more ‘restoring force’, which is the ability to open when the coil drive is turned off. This in turn extends the working life of the reed switch many times.

Pickering Electronics’ 117 Series Reed Relays are ideal for very high density applications such as A.T.E. switching matrices or multiplexers. They are available in 3V and 5V, 1 Form A and 2 Form A variants and like all of our Single-In-Line Series they are constructed using our SoftCenter™ technology.

Pickering Series 113 SIL Changeover Reed Relays
Pickering Electronics’ Series 113 changeover single-in-line reed relay is our smallest changeover. They’re magnetically screened and require a board area of only 0.15 inches (3.8mm.) by 0.5 inches (12.7mm.). They have a 3 Watts rating and like all of our Single-In-Line Series they are constructed using our SoftCenter™ technology.
