Cogiscan’s New Genealogy Module Provides Complete Traceability

Jul 28, 2014

Cogiscan Inc., the leading Track, Trace and Control (TTC) solutions provider for the electronics manufacturing industry, is pleased to introduce a new Genealogy Module. This module offers the capability to continue the tracking, traceability and control of Printed Circuit Board Assemblies (PCBAs) throughout subsequent assembly levels, all the way to the finished product.

With the Genealogy Module, one or several serialized PCB assemblies, serialized sub-assemblies, and other components that are tracked at a lot number level, are assembled together during final product assembly.  The Cogiscan traceability database captures the identity of each individual PCBA, sub-assembly and other items. This information is linked directly to the serial number of the finished product. It is possible to drill-down to multiple levels of sub-assembly, for example to identify which component lot numbers were used to build a specific PCBA in a specific product serial number. Also, it is possible to search the traceability database backwards to identify which product serial numbers were built using a specific component lot number.

The new module provides a higher level of traceability by allowing multi-level box build traceability and improves inventory control with real-time visibility of all materials in process (WIP).  Additionally, it reduces manufacturing, warranty and customer service costs, and improves product quality with automated quality control.

For the past 15 years Cogiscan has been widely recognized as the industry-leading expert in TTC solutions for PCBA. During this time, the scope and depth of the Cogiscan application modules have grown to the point where Cogiscan now offers a TTC solution for the complete assembly of electronic products, including box build.
