Cobar's Easy-to-Use Cobrush Featured in the IPC's First Ever Hand Solder Competition

Sep 26, 2011

Cobar Solder Products Inc. announces that its Cobrush flux applicator was demonstrated at the First Ever Hand Solder Competition at the recently held IPC Midwest exhibition.

A precise, inexpensive and handy tool for applying liquid flux to tiny chip components as well as individual solder joints, Cobar’s Cobrush flux applicator puts flux only where it is needed — in just the right amount — and is ideal for applying liquid no-clean fluxes to any site that needs to be soldered. It is disposable and compatible with many different types of fluxes. Its fine bristle tip allows the user to apply flux to very small areas in densely populated assemblies. This inexpensive applicator cuts down on waste and prevents overfluxing, thus reducing possible cleaning time and preventing contamination.

The Cobrush’s transparent cartridge allows the user to see the amount of remaining material in the reservoir. Its small, compact size and large capacity make it ideal for most rework and post-assembly applications. Flux is dispensed by lightly squeezing the barrel, then using the gentle applicator bristles to apply the flux, just like an artist’s brush, which allows the user to control the amount of flux flow. A snug-fitting cap prevents flux evaporation in the barrel, thus extending the life and purity of the flux. Constructed of rugged polypropylene, the Cobrush features an ergonomic design for ease of use, is compact enough to fit into the top pocket of a lab coat and can easily be labeled.

The contest was designed to pit competitors against each other in order to build a functional electronics assembly within a 30-minute time limit to ultimately determine the best-of-the-best is in the Midwest. IPC Master Instructors judged assemblies on soldering in accordance with IPC-J-STD-001, the speed at which assembly was produced and overall electrical functionality of assembly. The winner earned a $500 cash prize as well as the title of Best Hand-Soldering Technician in the Midwest for 2011 with $250 and $100 awarded to two runners up.

Sponsored by the IPC - Association Connecting Electronics Industries®, the competition took place September 21-22, 2011 at the Renaissance Schaumburg Hotel and Convention Center, in Schaumburg, Ill.
