Introducing SmartFAB - A Modular Type Multi-purpose Automated Fabrication Machine

SmartFAB

Of the various electronic components used on printed circuits boards, the majority can be mounted using standard SMT processes. However, there are still many products that require large, odd-form or insertion components which cannot be handled by standard mounting equipment. These components are often mounted by hand at a later stage of production. This type of manual mounting is highly labor intensive, so there is strong demand to automate these processes. Low yield rates and maintaining consistent quality for this manual work are also important issues that must be addressed.

Fuji's SmartFAB automates manual assembly work to save labor and achieve high productivity along with high quality.

The SmartFAB is much more than just a specialist insertion machine and, as the name suggests, is a truly multi-faceted assembly machine.

SmartFAB supports various forms of parts supply such as radial parts, axial parts, trays, sticks, and bowl feeders, and has the ability to handle part sizes from 1608 (0603”) to 190 x 190 mm, with heights up to 110 mm and weights up to 200 g.
*Some restrictions may apply to the above part sizes and weight.

The machine is equipped with various standard nozzles and chucks for handling components and automatic exchange during production allows it to support various applications. Custom nozzles and chucks are also available in addition to the standard tools.

The SmartFAB is not limited to mounting electronic components either; it is also capable of connection processes such as adhesive dispensing, bolt tightening, and spot flow soldering.

Just like Fuji's NXT series of SMT mounters - of which 42,000 modules have been shipped worldwide - the SmartFAB's compact and modular design means easy exchange and configuration of the various machine units to provide the flexibility needed to handle the wide range of applications outlined above.
