Anadigm Receives Control Engineering

2003 Engineers Choice Award for AnadigmPID

CAMPBELL, Calif. March 3, 2004 AnadigmPID, an EDA tool that fully automates the development of analog proportional, integral, derivative (PID) control loops implemented with Field Programmable Analog Arrays (FPAAs), has been honored with one of eight annual Engineers Choice awards chosen by the readers of Control Engineering, a monthly publication covering the $40 billion automation market in North America.

Control Engineering announced the eight Engineers Choice Award winners in Chicago on February 26 at the magazines 17th annual awards reception. For the first time, subscribers to Control Engineerings North American edition were asked to choose the best technologies for automation, control, and instrumentation from among the 35 winners of the 2003 Control Engineering Editors Choice Awards announced in the magazines January 2004 issue. Selection criteria for both awards were service to the industry, technological advancement, and market impact.

The Engineers Choice Award is particularly gratifying as it comes from the ranks of design engineers who have recognized Anadigms programmable analog ICs and EDA software as a real solution to vexing design problems, said Brian Hodges, Vice President of Worldwide Marketing at Anadigm. We are very proud with what weve achieved with AnadigmPID and of this recognition from members of the design community for which it was created.

Using an Anadigm Field Programmable Analog Array (FPAA) as the silicon platform, the AnadigmPID tool automatically builds analog PID control loops on the basis of user-specified top-level control coefficients. Eliminating the need to specify up to 50 discrete semiconductor and passive components, AnadigmPID reduces to a matter of minutes the time required to design and implement one of the most common types of control circuits. Once designed and simulated, the controller circuit can be immediately downloaded to an FPAA device for testing and validation.

The implemented control subsystem can be controlled in real time by the embedded system processor, allowing users to build control loops whose coefficients adjust as the system moves from start-up to quiescent. Benefits include a major improvement in system performance and new opportunities for electronics manufacturers to differentiate their systems with innovative control circuits.

The eight winners of Engineers Choice Awards are featured in the March 2004 print edition of Control Engineering. The complete list is available at http://www.manufacturing.net/ctl.

About Anadigm

Anadigm brings platform-based design to the analog world with pre-qualified software and hardware components that allow complex analog circuits to be implemented in an analog equivalent to the FPGA. Designed to implement signal conditioning, filtering, data acquisition, closed-loop control, and other analog functions in a wide range of embedded systems, Anadigm FPAAs are first programmable analog ICs that can adapt on the fly to perform multiple functions, adjust to different environmental conditions, or compensate for equipment aging. Founded in January 2000 as a venture-backed technology spinoff from Motorola, Anadigm maintains U.S. headquarters in Campbell, Calif., and European headquarters in Crewe, UK.
