KIC to Premier the KIC Explorer Thermal Profiler at Productronica 2007

Oct 29, 2007

San Diego October 29, 2007 KIC, the leader of thermal process development and control products and winner of multiple industry awards, announces that it will launch KIC Explorer, a new generation of thermal profiler, in Hall A5, Stand 134 at the upcoming Productronica 2007 exhibition and conference scheduled to take place November 13-16, 2007 at the New Munich Trade Fair Center in Munich, Germany.

KIC Explorer, featuring an impressively compact design, moves easily through the restrictive process dimensions encountered in todays thermal applications. It incorporates state-of-the-art SMT technology and high-temperature rated components, backed by KICs distinguished reputation for reliability. Users can depend on this rugged, innovative hardware to endure the harsh conditions of real-world factory use.

Modern applications introduce an array of thermal process complexities. To conquer those challenges, additional thermal profile data is necessary. As a standard feature, the KIC Explorer features 12 thermocouples to meet user requirements. The ingenious miniature-TC harness design makes this possible, and it is less expensive than using a standard Type-K thermocouple. (If Type-K thermocouples are preferred, the KIC Explorer is available in a standard Type-K, 7-channel model.)

Acquiring more data in a small unit is only the beginning. The KIC Explorer provides the highest sampling rate available, greater memory capacity and superior data precision. Thermal profile data are conveniently transferred to the users computer via a USB connection. Standard AAA batteries power the KIC Explorer; rechargeable batteries are optional.

Data Intelligence Software

The KIC Explorers easy-to-use software has a modern, graphical interface that intuitively guides users through the task of profiling. All critical profile and process data are measured, including slope, peak temperature and time above liquidous. The software also measures the Process Window Index (PWI) statistic. The PWI mathematically and objectively identifies the profiles fit to the available process window. A PWI less than 100 indicates an in-spec profile. A PWI value of aero represents the center of the process window. Therefore, the lower the PWI the more stable and efficient the process.

The PWI also instantly reveals where the process or oven needs to be adjusted. Manual prediction capability comes standard with the KIC Explorer, allowing for the process or oven setup to be manually adjusted and improved. The optional KIC Auto-Focus automates process improvement and optimization. Within seconds, the KIC Auto-Focus automatically googles the billions of alternative oven recipes and selects the single best oven setup for each application.

The KIC Explorer hardware and software improve production quality, productivity and documentation. Users benefit from unmatched performance, flexibility and miniaturization with this new generation of thermal profilers.

Based in San Diego, KIC is the industry leader in automated thermal management tools and systems for reflow, wave, cure and semiconductor thermal processes. The company pioneered the development of oven profilers and process development tools, and then worked to create the next generation of thermal systems to help manufacturers optimize and monitor thermal processes. In addition to SlimKIC 2000-LF, products include standard SlimKIC 2000, the KIC 24/7 continuous monitoring system and more. With the introduction of cutting edge tools, the company continues to stay on the leading edge of process optimization and real time thermal management systems, and has won numerous industry awards.
