Unlike many other types of connector coding system, the new profiles do not reduce the number of connector poles available to the user.
By eliminating the possibility of connection errors, however, they not only minimise the risk of malfunctions and damage to equipment during commissioning and servicing, but also greatly increase operational safety.
Easy to fit, yet securely retained in place once fitted, coding profiles are inserted in recesses moulded in both the plugs and headers of connectors in the Combicon range.
Coloured bright red, the coding profiles are easy to see against the green connector mouldings, making it easy to recognise mating plugs and headers.
A further benefit is that several profiles may be fitted to each connector - the exact number depends on the connector size - providing a large number of coding possibilities.
With a ten-way connector, for example, 362,880 codes are available, sufficient to ensure that every connector in the most gargantuan installation is uniquely coded.
Phoenix Contact's coding profiles for Combicon connectors are suitable for use with 7.62mm pitch standard and inverted headers which are rated 12A per pole at up to 400V; 5 and 5.08mm pitch headers rated 16A per pole at up to 250V; and 7.62mm Power Combicon headers rated 20A per pole at up to 400V.
