IPC Conference Targets Critical Issues for the Military Market

Oct 12, 2011

Representatives from Rockwell Collins, Boeing, Raytheon, Lockheed Martin, and Sanmina Among Featured Speakers

Changes in export regulations, transforming military technology trends, and impending defense budget cuts are just three of a host of factors that are altering the business and technology landscapes of the defense market - and all with significant impacts on the electronics manufacturing industry. On December 8, 2011, representatives from companies throughout the military electronics supply chain will discuss the changing defense market at the IPC Conference for the PCB Industry: Critical Issues for the Military Market in Washington, D.C.

What are the key military technology trends? What are the critical roadmap issues for military OEMs? How will the changes in export regulations impact the electronics manufacturing industry? Industry experts and senior-level executives from companies of the PCB industry will answer these questions and provide valuable insights into the technology requirements of the government and military OEMs and how military suppliers are addressing the challenges of supporting a market in flux.

Stephen Cambone, executive vice president of strategic development at QinetiQ North America, will kick off the conference with his keynote address that examines military technology trends as well as the technologies that will help protect the nation.

Providing exclusive looks at their companies’ technology roadmaps, representatives from leading military OEMs Boeing, Raytheon and Lockheed Martin will present conference participants with valuable overviews of their companies’ strategies, drivers and technology requirements.

During “Solving the Challenges of Supplying the Military”, a panel of senior-level,  PCB industry executives, including Peter Bigelow, president and CEO of IMI; Dick Alexander, director, Rockwell Collins Printed Circuits; and Alan Abbate, vice president of worldwide sales at Sanmina-SCI., will answer questions from the audience on how they are meeting the demands of supplying the military.

With revealing data from IPC’s market research studies, Sharon Starr, IPC director of market research, will provide attendees with insights into what the results of those studies mean for the military market. IPC staff will also be on hand to discuss what the latest changes to export regulations mean to the industry.

In “Is Your RFP D.O.A.?” Steve DeWaters, president, Penumbra Strategies, will shine light on the best practices in developing a request for proposal.

The conference will end with a special PCB Suppliers Gap Analysis. Representatives from some of the industry’s most prominent suppliers will discuss advancements in materials in support of military electronics. The panel will feature George Milad, a national accounts manager with Uyemura International Corp.; G. Sydney Cox, Ph.D., research scientist, Dupont; John Andresakis, vice president of strategic technology, Oak-Mitsui; and Patrick Charest, LDI application specialist, Orbotech, who together will analyze potential openings for board fabricators.

The evening before the conference begins, a special VIP networking reception will be held for conference registrants.

The IPC Conference for the PCB Industry: Critical Issues for the Military Market will be held in conjunction with the ITAR/EAR Compliance for PCB Manufacturers Workshop - Complying with U.S. Export Controls, on December 6-7.
