Valor Announces DDE ODB++ Integration to Supermax ECAD

Sep 11, 2001

Yavne (Israel), September 11 2001 - Valor Computerized Systems (Neuer Markt: VCR) has announced that DDE-EDA A/S (formerly Dansk Data Elektronik A/S) recently joined its OSA (Open Systems Alliance) partnership program in order to develop a robust ODB++ interface from DDEs Supermax ECAD PCB/MCM/Hybrid layout system to third-party DFM and CAM applications.

In response to customer demand, DDE-EDA needed to provide its customers with a modern data interface solution for DFM, manufacturing analysis and CAM that was fully integrated within their design environment. With the direct input of ODB++ into the downstream DFM and CAM processes, Supermax ECAD users will have the complete functionality to automatically deliver relevant Supermax ECAD design data quickly and easily into the manufacturing stages of the product realization cycle, without loss of design data integrity. ODB++ allows for the complete elimination of Gerber, Excellon, netlist and component placement files for manufacturing data transfer.

Commenting on the decision to join Valors OSA program, Svend Kamstrup Jakobsen, president and CEO at DDE-EDA said, The ODB++ integration provides our mutual customers with efficient integration of their electronic design and manufacturing environments. Using ODB++ as the main manufacturing interface eliminates many causes of manufacturing failures, resulting in reduced prototype iterations, set-up times and shorter product release cycles. We are also seeing that some contract manufacturers offer cycle-time incentives to their OEMs if they supply design data in the ODB++ format, because the risky and unnecessary phase of data reverse-engineering is completely avoided.

The rapidly increasing number of EDA and CAM software companies who are developing ODB++ interfaces to DFM and CAM systems underpins the widening market acceptance of ODB++ as the next generation de facto standard for improving the processes of CAD/CAM data exchange across the electronics supply chain, added Julian Coates, vice president of marketing at Valor. We are fully committed to supporting all third-party EDA partners to effectively implement the ODB++ format into their CAD/CAM workflow processes.

Product Availability

The ODB++ interface is shipping in November and is fully compatible with the latest release 9 of the DDE-EDA Supermax ECAD products.
