Altera launches embedded processor solution

Apr 16, 2001

April 10, 2001 - San Francisco, CA - Altera Corp. unveiled its ARM9-based Excalibur embedded processor solution for system-on-a-programmable-chip (SOPC) designs at the Embedded Systems Conference, held this week in San Francisco, CA.

The company expects to provide samples to customers toward the end of this quarter.

An integral part of the company's SOPC strategy, the ARM9-based EPXA 10 device enables system integration on a single chip by combining programmable peripherals, logic and memory with embedded processors.

In a separate announcement, Altera is anticipating the upcoming availability of an enhanced Nios soft processor core, which has the ability to be used in reference to designs that enable Ethernet connectivity and Internet access as well as Linux operating system support.

Additionally, the company has partnered with Wind River Systems, Alameda, CA, for support of their VxWorks AE operating system, Red Hat, Durham, NC, for support of their GNUPro embedded software development tools and Mentor Graphics, Wilsonville, OR, for its seamless Co-Verification Environment (CVE) on the Excalibur hard-core processor products.
