Würth Elektronik Circuit Board Technology launches HyPerStripes research project

Nov 20, 2023 | In many miniaturized electronics applications, conventional cable wiring is both costly and material-intensive. It also limits the scope for innovation and product performance. The HyPerStripes (Hybrid integrated high performance electronic stripes) project addresses these limitations by developing technologies and production processes for long, smart and flexible electronic systems that can replace conventional cables. HyPerStripes focuses on two key applications: On the one hand, on medical instruments used in minimally invasive procedures (e.g., catheters and implants); and on the other hand, on environmentally friendly LED lighting surfaces.

Bonding Flip Chips on to Flexible Circuit Boards

Jan 18, 2011 | Time and again, a major challenge lies in attaching integrated circuits (ICs) to highly integrated circuit board substrates in a space-saving manner. Würth Elektronik took this challenge on and found an ideal solution with the ESC (encapsulated solder connection) process. The chips are soldered and at the same time glued 'face-down" in their exact position.

Würth Elektronik’s unique ESC process enables flip chip bonding on the most varied of substrates, even on flexible materials such as polyimide films and LCPs (liquid crystal polymers).
