Seica Firefly - Issues?

Mar 21, 2008 | ... reply and try to assist. PROMATION, my company, also manufactures Diode Laser soldering systems but with this stated we also manufacturer iron tip systems, soft beam systems and hot air solutions. The reasons are simple. Diode Laser is not for everyone or every application. Our engineering team has yet to find any thermal sensor or other solution that can provide accurate feedback on soldering temperature when using a diode laser which is unlike that of an Iron tip solution where the temperature ...

SM4007A Genpurpose Diode

Jun 9, 2006 | SM4007A Genpurpose Diode We are finding this diode not reflowing well. We are having tombstoning issues with this part and only this part on different pcbs. The main thing we find is that under a scope there is blow outs as in air bubbles that look like they have exploded. I am thinking there is contamination on the Components. We had just profiled our oven for the board we were using. My main reason for this thought is that on one of the pcbs we ran thru the processes we had a perfect print on ...

Please help me identify this diode

Jul 17, 2007 | Please help me identify this diode It's a small diode with orange core - has a blue kathode stripe it reads "3" then as you roll it over it reads "2c" That is it. I really would appreciate any help in identifying this diode and understanding the coding method used on these diodes. Thank you ...

SMT diode

Mar 29, 2006 | SMT diode We have been experiencing a reflow issue with a SMT diode 4007. This is a SMA or DO 214-A package. It is a lead free part used with 63/37 paste no clean flux. The problem is it is not consistant. 100 diodes can be reflowed rock solid on the board and then one or two can be flicked off with with your finger with little effort. The solder joint on these looks a little grainy, like a cold solder joint. Peak temp is about 225 C on this diode and about 70 seconds in liquidus. Trying to ...

Wiring LED's

Oct 27, 2003 | Wiring LED's A light emitting diode or "LED" doesn't care about voltage, it will light with approx. 10 to 20 milliamps of current. In a 12V system (such as an auto), a resistor of 1K ohms is ideal. At 12V, this allows about 12 mA of current, at 13.8V (approximate alternator output), the current would be about 14 mA. Yes it is a diode, so has to be forward biased to light. The current limiting resistor can go on the cathode or anode, it'll do it's job either way. SP1

Part sliding in reflow?

Apr 17, 2001 | ... slides on one of the pads (as much as 0.125"). There is a slight amount of warp in the PCB during reflow. Every array is inspected via AOI before entering the oven. In a related note... there is a small diode placed near the antenna that disappears during reflow. I assumed that the diode (SOT-23 style leads) did not have enough surface contact with the solder paste to withstand the force of the convection blowers. With that in mind I have tried reducing the fan speeds on the oven to reduce the ...

Evaluating SMD Adhesives

Nov 28, 2001 | ... with gluing & putting them through the wave on some of our older legacy designs. Increasing the amount of glue will help a little bit. We ended up talking to both the diode vendor & our glue vendor to get a solution. We wound up dispensing a little more glue under the melf to ensure good coverage between PCB & part. The diode vendor then gave us a corrective action plan for ensuring we would receive diodes that were compatable with the gluing process. All they really did was change the type of ...

Re: BAS32 diode broken

Jan 26, 2000 | Re: BAS32 diode broken The diode doesnt appear completely broken. It takes a bit white color (cristal break, I think), instead of the normal red/orange. It works like a 20K-200K ohm resistor. !The diode can be working properly and sometimes change to bad! I think it may be a problem of board flex. Is it normal? I have seen it in SMD capacitors (KEMET flex crack files) in our products. Thank you very much

Re: BAS32 diode broken

Jan 26, 2000 | Re: BAS32 diode broken I recommend you to test at least 2 other vendors for the diode; you can find that the problem is diode manufacturing, or else, you will find out that you have a proccess problem for sure. There is no use to start investigating your proccess before you are sure the problem is there ! Roni

SM4007A Genpurpose Diode

Jun 9, 2006 | SM4007A Genpurpose Diode I believe this is a MELF, correct? If so, it could be your pad design. Most use a "horse shoe" style that seems to work well. Another thing to look at is your cooling zones. I've seen these parts remain liquidous into the cooling zone where they tombstoned as well. Of course, just as you have said, I too have seen bad plating on the ends of the part too ...

LED (Ligth Emitting Diode) auto insertion equipment

Nov 12, 2003 | LED (Ligth Emitting Diode) auto insertion equipment Depending on quantities etc, you probably have a few options. If it's the automated route you require then any of the radial insertion machines from UIC or TDK will do the job. We've inserted LED's in the past with machines over 10 years old, so if cost is an issue, and ultra high speed isn't, then an old refurbished machine will do the job. Check out these sites for an idea. LED (Ligth Emitting Diode) auto insertion equipment

Mar 18, 2009 | ... MX100 PLC's blown. 2. Both color monitors blown. 3. Y-axis servo amp blown 4. MOV (metal oxide varistor) on noise filter blown. I got very lucky on this and was able to repair without buying parts. Both Plc's had a blown thermistor and 2 blown diode's. I replaced the bad components and PLC's are now working. MOV's were easy to replace. I really got lucky on the Y amp. I took it apart and found a bad resistor where the incoming AC gets distributed. Replaced the resistor and now the amp is good. I ...

component markings

Oct 16, 2008 | ... Especially if her review depends on it:) What other components are you having trouble with other than diodes? The diodes we purchase are usually in a SOT-23 package but the marking is always clearly visible. Now it may depend on what package the diode is in. Is it different packages and different parts? Some parts we have trouble with. TVS in a 2010 package, to name one, have the markings printed, not laser etched. This makes it extremely difficult to get any repeatability or consistancy during ...

Solder Paste Inspection Systems

Dec 28, 2007 | ... Thats a killer. Especially if its salesperson driven (which most are). Almost as bad as when they pick up Circuits Assembly or Assembly Magazine. OK so youre stuck doing this process. I would invest in the trained monkey with the $0.35 diode. There are a few good machines out there to do solder paste inspection, but if youre going to spend the money, why not look at solder joints after the oven? There are several machines that will look at component ID as well as solder joint quality ...

Solder Paste Inspection Systems

Dec 28, 2007 | ... worlds problems. She then inquired as to why we were not measuring everything as we already had the equipment. Anyways, that's an uphill battle. So, our current system is down (burnt the laser out) It will cost over 1K for the part ($.35 laser diode) that can only be replaced by a trained monkey at a premium rate. At this point I am not inclined to repair this system. As I had mentioned, I have seen some systems that do coverage as well as height. I was wondering if anyone had any input as to ...

Laser solder reflection

Nov 23, 2007 | Laser solder reflection I may be able to help but would need to understasnd more about your application. The rating on the diode laser can directly effect its ability to refelct or penetrate the solder, but I would lnot to rule out beam placement at the joint either. If you system is hard tooled (no vision) you may see variance in where the beam hits the pad, pin, etc which could also be causing this issue. Please write me at Please help me identify this diode

MyData Missing Placements

Jul 11, 2007 | ... and thereby it utilizes the "Force Sensor" located inside the Midas head. The "Force Sensor" is a set of bulbous diodes, of which one transmits and the other receives (senses) light. The base end of the spring tool will block the light from one diode to the next when placing a part, therefore it needs to be cleaned regularly as part of your daily or weekly maintenance. If the glass bulb part is dirty which occurs due to the air transferred across the tops of the bulbs from the vacuum being drawn ...

Problem with shielding component

Jan 9, 2007 | ... is more than once I've been told the only difference in a new rev is one component or one change. But the truth was that was the only reason for the change, and in fact there were several changes made because of the primary change. For example a diode was changed to a much smaller package, and the kit was issued with the old rev parts but caps and resistors had changed to match the new diodes. Make sure that the shielding was the only change. Also can you hand solder the shielding on later? If ...

Assemblon feeders

Jun 13, 2006 | Assemblon feeders Has anybody else noticed a problem with Assemblon's mechanical 12 mm feeders, with 4 mm pitch? We are experiencing grave pickup problems with a MELF diode packed this way and fed with this type of feeder. If I attach a hefty weight to the blister tape in order to create additional pull to the blister tape the feeder seems to work much better. Not exactly a high tech solution but does help to some extent. Quite obviously the spring-operated tape feed mechanism simply does ...

LASER SOLDERING

Apr 19, 2006 | ... different, it might take a while for you to fine-tune the program every time, could you afford this? also depending on your assemblies, you need to consider the wattage required, 30, 60w, etc. About running costs....Do you know how long the laser diode lasts? After a number of hours-use it starts to degrade and eventually you will have to replace it. This is something that laser selective equipment vendors do not mention if you do not ask. This is my 2-cents and my opinion...Good luck on you ...

LASER SOLDERING

Apr 11, 2006 | LASER SOLDERING Hi Dougs I worked a bit a few years ago with a diode type soldering laser. I found laser soldering very application specific so make sure you send samples off to differnt companies to see actual results. You can get good results with a laser system, just takes some work. Pros: Isolated heat area, quick to respond, target solder joint, flexible (if good software and laser control), repeatable Cons: The quick ramp rate can cause solder balling (flux burn off and scatter solder, ie ...

pcb laser markers

Jul 12, 2004 | pcb laser markers For laser marking you dont require as powerful lasers then for cutting. A 20 Watt laser diode does already a good job. Because of the safety requirements the laser operates in an enclosure, which means more $$$ if you want to use the laser in line with conveyor. Check out, if the software does that, what you like to do. The laser marker may read a print file and may operate like a printer. Instead of an ink dot, it turns the laser on, line by line. It may take quite a while ...

Here is my problem: The opto has a diode across it to protect it and if machine A's wires are mixed up, machine A "board available from previous" signal will be at the anode of the diode which will always conduct and will pass the signal back to machine A where it will be pulled low. The result of this is the conveyor (machine A) will try and feed a board to ...
