The three basic methods you can use to restore solderability on components are: * Highly active fluxes in a retinning operation. * Surface stripping chemistry and then a standard retinning operation. * Electrochemical conversion chemistry and then a

How passive components work

Electronics Forum | Thu Dec 15 07:38:33 EST 2016 | emeto

Passive components are the one's that don't gain power on the output. The one's that do are called active components. Diodes, resistors, caps and inductors are examples of passive. Transistor is active component.

Hello Guys; I "ll like to add some comment on Mr John message , see below.. "Be sure that the components to be used on the bottom can take the maximum heat of the wave and the delta T of entering the wave."-John The required preheat temp , that i

Quad 4c not placing components

Electronics Forum | Wed Sep 04 09:47:41 EDT 2019 | smrsteve

Hello All, I've just bought a Quad 4c pick & place machine. It's so close to actually building boards, but just doesn't quite get there. I was wondering if there's somebody out there with experience of these machines that might be able to help...?

lead free components in leaded process

I agree with Chris. Not all but SOME components definitely had to change to be able to withstand higher heat. I would watch out for some plastic connectors, possibly some active components, and definitely many electrolytic caps. Older stock compone

In passives I dont know if anything changed at all other than the terminal plating. As for Active components there has been much engineering done to allow for the extra heat needed to liquify say SAC305 or other lead free pastes without damage to th

Lead free components in 62/36/2 paste prob.

It sounds like you're exhausing your flux activity on this component proir to reflow. We'd start with the reflow recipe suggested by your paste supplier. If the component lead doesn't flow well try: * Raising the peak temperature in 5*C increments.

Reflow soldering of lead-free components with leaded solder paste

Electronics Forum | Mon Feb 26 20:05:09 EST 2024 | alexv

Leaded solder is liquidus at 183C, 220C is max. Sounds to me your boards might be contaminated or the plating is poor and allows oxidation. Without seeing the boards or profile, I recommend you slow down your oven for a longer soak, to allow the acti

Reflow soldering of lead-free components with leaded solder paste

We have the standard profile as a template made according to the solder paste specs. For some boards we measure the result at 2 points, on the board itself and on top of a sensitive SOT263 module and adjust accordingly. The solder paste is well kept,
