Defect Coverage for Non-Intrusive Board Tests
The non-intrusive test, embedded instrumentation-based technologies that make up NBT include boundary-scan-test, processor-controlled test, and built-in self test. In fact, these technologies form a perfect complement. They are all non-intrusive, typically requiring access only to the common board-level debug/test access port, but each one brings its own distinct elements of defect coverage to the NBT strategy. Boundary-scan test provides a core capability of test for PCB structure (e.g. shorts & opens); processor-controlled test adds elements of test for production function (e.g. test execution at full processor speed); and built-in self test delivers aspects of test for system performance (e.g. on-margin/measurement).
