Anybody still using or has knowledge of RV4 versertronics machines?

I have a problem that to increase accurate placement and pick up, I need increased light. If I run with the smoke coloured safety cover down errors increase greatly.

I'm arranging a service but would be grateful for any clues why this problem exists.
