I've got a Universal axial machine with an 8221 controller on it. It stopped communicating to the monitor. Also, when I start it up the run light comes on for a second and then goes off. Does anyone have any ideas on where I can find information for troubleshooting this? Thanks

Looks like you'll need to reset the controller. That will require turning the Run/Halt swith to Halt and back to Run. That should put an @ prompt on the screen. There is a list of inputs you continue through to reinitiate, but I have forgotten the sequence. Try contacting one of the guys at NEA Inc.

Doug is on to something there, but you may still have other problems. It could be your exec. is corrupt and needs a reload (I sound like a certain UIC tech. support dude) or you could have a hardware problem.

Do you vacuum that thing out with any frequency? Could just be dirty and have some bad contacts, or be getting hot. You might reseat some cards just to be sure IF you can't get it to reset properly. It seems that one of the manuals had that restart sequence in it but it might have been hand written in ours. Been a while. Good luck.

Make sure you have DC ok light on, on the EMI/PS card slot one. If not check your DC voltages at the card...5,15+,15-,12 v dc. if your voltages are not there then the machine will not run.

I don't think NEA is around anymore. I know of a great guy named Don Burshnick at a place called SMT Technologies that used to build Universal machines and knows them like the back of his hand, call him at: 607-772-2900.

try "halt" your EMI and check if the @ appear on screan.
If yes, type G or P to re-start the system.
If NO, make sure 5VDC is present.
V2 controller really a tricky one.

if you have not turned the halt switch down then back up you can sometimes get a restart using 0(zero)G and enter. If that does not work you will have to load the exec.
