Sensor Fusion 3U - Data Acquisition Device Description:

The Sensor Fusion™ is a 3U data acquisition device that accepts up to 4 different SF Cards. This device is integrated with the A3200 motion controller to provide precise time alignment of motion and data acquisition functions. Data collection is synchronized across all cards in the Sensor Fusion so there is never a need to align data after collection. Data collection, configuration and analysis are done using the A3200’s extensive set of software tools.

The Sensor Fusion connects to the A3200 Motion Network via Firewire® and can be run with or without any of the A3200 motion control devices. Integrating the data acquisition into the motion control platform allows for a cost-effective data acquisition solution with quick and easy configuration and setup for shorter development time.

Interfaces

Setup, data recording and data playback can be done through .NET, C, LabVIEW®, MATLAB® or Aerotech’s own AeroBasic™ programming language. All inputs and outputs can be managed graphically through our I/O Manager utility that is part of the Motion Composer in the A3200 software suite. By managing data acquisition directly from the same library or interface used to program motion control, there is less time spent managing separate environments. Once data is collected it can be graphed easily in the Digital Scope or exported to other data manipulation packages.

Features

Sensor Fusion has cards available for digital input and output, analog input and output, encoder input and PSO output. High-power digital output cards as well as high resolution analog output cards are available. Each card can be used in the Sensor Fusion, in any configuration. With no parameters to manage and no difficult setup to go through, switching cards from one system to another is easy. Breakout blocks make accessing each of the inputs and outputs simple, while the use of standard D-connectors on each card allows users to make their cables from common parts.

Flexible Configurations

Sensor Fusion is available in three different mounting configurations – desktop, rack mount and panel mount. The desktop version is standard and comes with integrated side handles and non-skid feet. The rack-mount version is designed for any standard 3U rack. Both the rack- and panel-mount relocate the power input to the proper side of the machine for the configuration. These flexible configurations allow you to easily move Sensor Fusion from one system to the next or fix permanently in a console or system weldment.

PSO - Extended Functionality

Sensor Fusion has all of the PSO functionality from our standard motion controller product lines. Single, double and triple PSO are available. Coupling data playback with Aerotech’s traditional PSO functionality allows users to control up to 96 digital outputs or 48 analog outputs, opposed to the traditional single PSO output available on our standard controllers. This allows for the precision control of multiple devices from one positioning system.

Sensor Fusion Card

Each SF card can be used with any Sensor Fusion configuration and in any slot, and attaches to the chassis with two screws located on the front of the card. The handle of each card acts as a lever to easily move cards from one slot or system to another. The front of each card is clearly labeled with the model number, description and connector for quick reference.

Analog Input: SF-AI-01 and SF-AI-02

  • 16 analog inputs
  • Selectable input range
  • 18-bit resolution
  • 400 kHz collection

The SF-AI-01 and SF-AI-02 cards allow up to 16 analog inputs. The SF-AI-01 card has one analog-to-digital converter that is shared across all 16 inputs for the collection of one input at 400 kHz or all 16 inputs at 25 kHz, and is determined when you set up the data collection. The SF-AI-02 card has four analog-to-digital converters shared across all 16 inputs, allowing four inputs to collect at 400 kHz or all 16 at 100 kHz. These inputs can be used as general purpose inputs into the system and recorded for analysis at a later time.

Analog Output: SF-AO-01 and SF-AO-02

  • 8 or 16 outputs
  • 500 kHz playback
  • 16-bit resolution
  • 5 V, 10 V or external reference voltage

The SF-AO-01 has eight analog outputs and the SF-AO-02 has 16 analog outputs. Both cards have 16-bit resolution and support up to 500 kHz playback rates. The outputs can be used as general purpose outputs controlled from various parts of the system. Alternatively, they can be set up as part of the high-speed data playback feature used to generate arbitrary waveforms from memory.

Analog Output: SF-AO-03 and SF-AO-04

  • 4 or 8 outputs
  • 750 kHz playback
  • 20-bit resolution
  • 5 V, 10 V or external reference voltage

The SF-AO-03 has four analog outputs and the SF-AO-04 has eight analog outputs. Both cards have 20-bit resolution and support up to 750 kHz playback rates. The outputs can be used as general purpose outputs controlled from various parts of the system. Alternatively, they can be set up as part of the high-speed data playback feature used to generate arbitrary waveforms from memory.

Digital Input: SF-DI-01

  • 32 isolated digital inputs
  • 5 or 24 volts
  • Active high or active low
  • 5 MHz collection

The SF-DI-01 allows for the collection of 32 digital inputs. These inputs can be used as general purpose inputs into the system and recorded for analysis at a later time. They can also be used to start a time-based recording or playback event. For more complicated systems, these inputs can be used to trigger a collection event or playback event for any signal on any other SF Card.

Digital Output: SF-DO-01 and SF-DO-02

  • 32 isolated digital outputs
  • 5 MHz playback
  • 32 mA at 5 V
  • High-power option: 325 mA at 5-24 V

The SF-DO-01 and SF-DO-02 cards allow for the control of 32 digital outputs. These outputs can be used as general purpose outputs controlled statically from any available programming interface. They can also be used for high-speed playback which allows for digital and analog output signals to be set based on time, an input trigger or a PSO event. The SF-DO-01 is the standard digital output card and the SF-DO-02 is the high-powered version.

Encoder Input and PSO Output: SF-ENC-01

  • 4 differential encoder inputs (TTL)
  • 1 PSO output
  • 1.0 MHz collection

The SF-ENC-01 card allows for the collection of up to four encoder inputs. It also has the ability to do single, double or triple PSO based on the encoder inputs. The standard PSO output can be used on this card, or the PSO functionality can be combined with data playback to create a multi-signal PSO event that spans up to 96 digital outputs or 48 analog outputs.
