“IoT” = Internet of Things

Cool, a new name for what we have been working with for over 30 years; yes the internet of things technologists have been at this for a long time, and we are good at it.

We have just been calling the “IoT” Building Automation Systems – aka BAS

Building Automation is about using computers to control and monitor many different functions within a building such as air conditioning, heating, lighting, energy usage, irrigation, security as examples.

We automate these systems in a building so that we do not have to remember to operate the systems manually.  Automation also can be much more accurate with the operation of the complicated systems we require in today’s modern facilities.  Automation allows humans to focus on the more important features of life.

While combining real time field information with IFTTT recipes, further filtering the results with sophisticated Boolean logic algorithms’, all combined in an easy to program graphical programming computer language, we can solve extremely complex sequences of operations to solve almost any mechanical system requirement needed today.

How we use these systems has a huge impact on the people in the buildings where these systems exist. Building automation when used and maintained correctly, can make our life better.

The reason I created this site was to help anyone that is interested in building automation (I like to think of building automation systems as robots that do not move much, but control a lot of stuff)

After working in this field for over 30 years, I now enjoy teaching and consulting to others that are in the building automation industry.  I still stay activly involved directly with designing, product R&D, programming, graphical user HMI development, CAD and BIM integration, system inspections, specification development, end user and controls technician training.
