Summary of Qualifications:

Allow me to introduce myself, my name is Joe Darnell and I was the Senior Project/Component Engineer for Motorola on the Streamaster digital set top box program. In January, 2002, Motorola eliminated my division and therefore I am available immediately for this exciting opportunity. And in fact, I believe that Im the perfect person for this position. I am anything but static, I thrive on a fast paced environment and a never ending focus of accomplishment by thinking outside the box. I have worked in the following industries; automotive, HVAC, military, computer, industrial and consumer. The positions that I have held are; a Worldwide Strategic Account Manager, a Senior Project/Component Engineer, a Senior Product Engineer, a Sales Engineer for a Sales Representative firm and a General Sales Manager for a Distributor.
My diverse background of Engineering and Sales encompasses more than 15 years in the field of electronics. The results of which revolved around a practice of total quality and cost effective satisfaction. This was accomplished by utilizing a combination of technical and business ability that provided value added design flexibility and long-term supplier relationships between OEMs and manufacturers. This culminated in, not only lowering the costs of existing products, but also in providing a model for very cost effective new product designs.
In the area of Project/Components Engineering, I have been involved in an environment of a coordinating effort encompassing Supply Chain Management, Design Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Quality Engineering, Program Management, Marketing, Sales and external Contract Manufacturing Organizations. I assisted in the implementation and maintenance of products from inception to high volume production. This was accomplished by putting into action a formulated project plan developed according to project design requirements for compliance to engineering principles, worldwide regulatory required specifications, company standards and customer contracted requirements. Through this effort, I have accomplished the activities relating to multiple sourcing, maintaining project schedules, resolving engineering design and test issues, assisted in contract negotiations, maintaining a component database, building and managing a comprehensive vendor network, obtaining prototype components, managed a components test lab, managed draftsmen and designers, prepared and did cost analysis on Bills of Materials and designed customized parts for specific applications. From a documentation perspective, I have authored test plans and component specifications from engineering sketches ( based on MIL-STDs ), maintained all ongoing engineering documentation, prepared documentation packages for update and release and created and tracked Engineering Change Notices and Releases.
In the area of sales, I feel most comfortable in the role of Strategic Account Manager, where besides travel not being an issue, allows me to become intimately involved with a customers needs. Either working directly from the manufacturing site or coordinating efforts with local sales representative organizations, I have accomplished harmonious positive results. This involved both the direct technical sales contact with the customer, developed leads and relationships, planned and executed both technical and business presentations, prepared quotations, presented offers and coordinated delivery schedules with between the manufacturing facility and the customer. This attitude of total customer satisfaction was combined both building to plan and introducing new cost-effective custom designed products that lowered costs and provided design flexibility.
Presently, I am living in the Austin, Texas area and both travel and relocation are not an issue.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at any time.
Thank you in advance for any consideration in this matter.
Sincerely,
Joe Darnell
