Global Applications Manager - LED

Alpha, a business unit of Alent plc and the global leader in the development, manufacturing and sales of innovative specialty materials used in a wide range of industry segments, including electronics assembly, power electronics, die attach, LED lighting, photovoltaics, semiconductor packaging, automotive and others is seeking a Global Applications Manager - LED for its’ South Plainfield, NJ global headquarters.

GENERAL PURPOSE OF JOB:

The purpose of this position is to provide applications process and guideline development, and technical support in the LED Wafer Level and Die Attach Products in LED applications, and work through the existing sales and customer technical service organizations to leverage this knowledge globally, with the ultimate goal of increasing product sales. 

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Act as Global Technical Leader in the applications process and guideline development, and technical support in the LED Wafer Level and Die Attach Products in LED applications.
• Work closely with Research and Development (R&D) to monitor progress in LED Wafer Level and Die Attach product development efforts and advise product team on suitability and timing for first customer engagements.
• Work with R&D, and equipment partners as well as lead customers to develop practical guidelines for emerging LED Wafer Level and Die Attach Products applications as well as to support existing products.
• Work with customers globally to provide technical guidance and to understand market needs and opportunities for product innovation.
• Assist in the development of training materials and deliver training to the global Customer Technical Service (CTS) team and sales team on LED Wafer Level and Die Attach Product applications in support of new product introductions.
• Investigate technical requirements of LED Wafer Level and Die Attach Products for target market applications and provide feedback to Technical Marketing Manager-LED for product planning and product positioning.
• Understand process equipment used in LED Wafer Level and Die Attach Products
• Establish relationships with equipment vendors and lead customers critical to the target markets.
• Support field trials directly and with CTS team for LED Wafer Level and Die Attach Product technologies with strategic customers.
• Understand competitive technologies and provide input to Technical Marketing Manager-LED to facilitate product line strategies.
• Act as the lead technical resource for guidance on use LED Wafer Level and Die Attach Products.
• Provide hands on development of guidelines for the best practice use of LED Wafer Level and Die Attach Products .
• Assist in the training of Sales and CTS personnel on the use of LED Wafer Level and Die Attach Products
• Travel globally as required to support division goals, including key customer trials to assess product performance
• Build a professional network of key customers, professional organizations, equipment suppliers
• Work with equipment vendors to understand new and existing equipment capabilities
• Understand product offerings of competitors
• Communicate regularly with R&D personnel for the purpose of explaining customer production processes and methods to further internal product development and testing.
• Contribute to product planning discussions with Technical Marketing Manager-LED

QUALIFICATIONS

The incumbent of this position must:

• Must possess a Bachelor’s degree in the engineering field, preferably mechanical/electrical/chemical or metallurgical engineering.
• Must have at least eight years experience with wafer bonding/semiconductor packaging/ electronics assembly processes in application, process or quality engineering roles. 
• LED assembly experience desirable but not essential.   
• Must be able to travel both domestically and internationally up to 35% of working time.
