SMT Manufacturing Engineer – 2nd Shift

An expanding Tier III Contract Manufacturer, we are seeking a SMT Manufacturing Engineer for 2nd shift support duties.  This role will ensure that manufacturing products, processes, and systems are defined and maintained in order to consistently manufacture products at their expected quality levels.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Performs experimentation with new methods and processes with guidance from Engineering Manager.
  • Communicates and suggests direction for process and methods improvements to internal customers.
  • Supports new process development. This includes, but is not limited to:
  • New equipment installation and qualifications.
  • Materials evaluations/qualifications (solder pastes, epoxies, flux, solvents).
  • Tooling/fixture development; this could entail procuring manufacturer’s tooling, or designing custom tooling for products or equipment; i.e. stencils, PCB carriers, press fit fixturing.
  • Training others in the Process Engineering department and/or production employees on equipment or processes.
  • Supports new product development. This includes, but is not limited to:
  • Machine programs. (Mydata, Dek) and maintenance, such as Cad Files, paste files, assembly drawings or aids, and assembly instructions.
  • Oven profile development.
  • Attending Design for Manufacturability (DFM) meetings conducted by Project Managers, to assist in defining required information for processes and concepts, and documenting all DFM findings.
  • Prepares charts, graphs, and diagrams to illustrate workflow, routing, floor layouts, material handling, and machine utilization.
  • Plans strategies for prioritizing individual workload in order to meet defined goals, whether working independently, or with others.
  • Works with Engineering/Manufacturing personnel in resolving problems to root cause.
  • Defect Analysis
  • May assist Manufacturing personnel in reconfiguring and optimizing workstations.
  • Responsible for considering safety requirements when developing assembly processes.
  • Supervise Second Shift Personnel, Machines, and Processes

Education & Experience:

  • Associates Degree preferred in an Engineering discipline.
  • 5+ years experience in Manufacturing and/or Quality/Process support role in an electronics related field required.
  • Knowledge of SMT assembly process and working knowledge of process equipment required.

Training Requirements:

  • IPC-A-610
  • Demonstrate a clear understanding of ISO 9001 standards.
  • Must have demonstrated ability to interpret all phases of Customer documentation, including Assembly Drawings, BOM’s, Quality Plans, workmanship standards, etc.
  • Ability to interface with customers/suppliers regarding requirements, tooling, workmanship and/or any aspect of customer requirements.
  • Must possess basic understanding of MS Office applications, including photo-editing skills.
  • Must be detail-oriented, and possess strong background and working knowledge of component identification and Quality System, to include existing procedures.

Required Abilities & Skills:

  • Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Statistical Process Control (SPC) skills a plus.
  • Define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
