Surface Mount Technology (SMT) Process Engineering Specialist

POSITION SUMMARY Reporting into the SMT Process Engineering organization, the successful candidate will be aligned with specific new product introductions and will play a pivotal technical role in the design for manufacturability of these products. The responsibility will apply to products built within RIM manufacturing and our Outsourcing partners. The successful candidate will be based in Waterloo and will lead the Surface Mount Technology (SMT) prototype build activity, inclusive of placement program generation, stencil design, new component validation, set up and debug, program optimization, oven profile creation and monitoring. The position also requires liaison with design in multiple locations to complete DFx reviews, post build analysis, issue tracking and resolution, to meet defined goals. The position will also be responsible for identifying new process technologies and coordination of process development activity. Due to the nature of the position the successful candidate will also have responsibility for Engineering Change Notices (ECN). ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS Manufacturing or Mechanical Engineering Degree or related academic qualification 5 -7 years Engineering experience in a high tech, high-volume, high mix SMT manufacturing environment Extensive experience of SMT prototype builds, including all processes involved in the PCB assembly process Experience of Statistical Process Control methods and competent in using various statistical DOE and problem solving tools Demonstrated leadership, verbal and written communications skills is required Experience in high tech SMT equipment (MPM, Siemens, Fuji, Camelot etc) is preferred Knowledge of FA (product reliability) and IPC standards would be an advantage Knowledge of hand held consumer electronics manufacturing would be an advantage If you're driven to take wireless technologies to the next level, it's time you join the team at RIM.
