Cycle Time Estimates | 21 October, 2005

All,

I have been asked to review how we come up with costing of products.

Basically, can anyone share how they do this i.e.

If the machine can run 60 boards per hour what is a fair allowance for reel changes etc. I am guessing 15% .

Any help/advice greatly appreciated.

Why don't you estimate a board, then do a time study when you actually build the board to see how accurate the estimate was. This works very well in convinceing someone how accurate you are.

Hi AJ,

Depends on what machines you are running, how you run them, and if you have the spare components on feeders lined up ready to go. On a volume job using CP's using both feeder banks on change over I'd be upset if they stopped for more than a few minutes an hour.

However, on a flexible placer, with only the right amount of feeders, on a hitech product with lots of component types, (it's starting to bring back bad memories just thinking about it...) it could take an average of 15 minutes an hour (obviously they all run out at the same time!).

We used to use an efficiency derating percentage based on number of component types, batch size, and if it was running on a Chipshooter line with changeover. (We also used the No. of component types for working out set up/deset time & cost).

Hope that helps,

Rob.

Hi, for capacity analisys I reduce a 15% of total capacity. This 15 % if for model changes, maintenance and material supply. So far no problem, I think 15 % is enough.
