Pick and place from bulk case

Pick and place from bulk case | 1 May, 2000

A while ago I read an article about a machine that can pick up a bulk case and then place components out of it without having to travel to a feeder pick up position in between. I forgot where I read this and who the manufacturer was. Can anyone help me with the name of the machine manufacturer? I am looking for a solution to place one type of component onto a tray with pockets for the components, I thought this head might be a nice way to do the job. Thanks for any help,

Erhard

Erhard, I am not sure what you mean. I believe bulk case placement only refers to C's & R's. Even then placing only 0603 and 0805. I assume you are talking about larger parts since you mention trays???

You are right, I am looking for a solution to place small components, 0603, 0805, 0402, and similar. The components will be fed by a vibratory feeder and placed onto trays. This is happening in the comp manufacturing stage and the trays are used as a sort of work holder for the components. So in this one case small components and tray does fit together. I thought that if this head can place components out of bulk case it should be possible to modify it to get the componets in a lane coming from the vibratory bowl. I hope it's a bit clearer now.

Hallo Erhard, this appears to be a common task for the manufacturer of taping machines. These machines pick from a bowl feeder or from a wafer and place into tape or tray. Check Ismeca, Viking and others. If you are looking into a custom made solution you may check www.steering-inc.com

I forgot to mention the mass placement machine from Nitto. The Nitto machine places all components out of bulkfeeders. Plastic tubes are routed above the feeders pick position and into cavities of a template. The template is made for the pattern of the board layout. It requires just milliseconds to suck all components at once into the cavities. After that the template is vibrated to assure proper seating of the components in the cavities. I can't remember quite, how the plate was inverted to place the components on the board, but the speed with 56.000 comp. per hour was very impressive.

Erhard: Several companies make feeders that move leadless chip components from a bulk feeder carrier, line them up head-to-tail, and present them to the pickup head of a high speed placement machine. Try: * Panasert * Suzuki

but you probably already know that and that doesnt appear to be what you seek. Several companies make placement work stations that may be more in-line with your needs. Try: * Adapt Automation * CHAD Industries * Clauss Electronics Division * GPAX International

or may be a parts feeder supplier may help. Try:
